Our Macs and iPhones and iPads seem to have an application for every need, a solution for every problem. So, it’s nice to find something simple, elegant, highly usable, and that comes without a price tag. And, you’ll use it every day.
3 Hands, 1 Purpose
In the era of the smartphone it appears as if a whole generation of people are climbing into adulthood without the use of a watch. Old people wear watches to tell time. Younger folk wear watches as an accessory.
How does the younger generation tell time? Their smartphones. Even Mac users have the Mac’s timepiece relegated to a sliver of the Menubar.
No, what this country needs isn’t a chicken in every pot, or a good five cent cigar. What we need is for people to be on time.
The cleverly named Clock app for the Mac helps those of us burdened without an internal clock or who have to squint at the Menubar to see the time.
Clock is, well, it’s just a clock on your Mac.
See? Simple, right?
It’s not even a digital clock.
Clock is just an old fashioned clock that tells time the old fashioned way. Three hands. Hour, minute, seconds.
Whatever the time is on your Mac is the time that Clock displays. The second hand moves steadily, slowly and features a gentle tick when the clock is made visible on the screen.
Clock also works as a Dock icon clock, but whenever the Clock app is hidden, the ticking stops. Clock doesn’t have any preferences. It can be hidden or made visible from the Menubar, and it can be moved around the screen with a simple drag, but an option to float the clock would be useful.
It’s a clock. It tells time. It’s free.
