If iPhoto isn’t the tool you need in your bag of tricks, there’s a Mac app that creates slideshows from photos and music, adds effects and text, to create movies using a variety of themes.
Make Movies From Photos
Movie editing can be a challenge, despite the fact that recording movies, dropping them into iMovie to edit, is about as painless as an effort can be.
We tend to take far more photographs than movies, so what better way to share our picture creates than stuffing them into an easy to create and share movie.
That’s what Photo Movie Maker Pro does. It’s a bit like the old fashioned iMovie from a few years ago, but the focus is on creating movies from still photos.
There’s the standard video timeline where you can drop in photos, add filters and effects, and separate photos with a bunch of professional transitions.
Photo Movie Maker also has a timeline for text which will appear over the photos. And, there’s another timeline for sound, either movies or voiceovers.
Audio can be trimmed with fade in and fade out controls, or looped so the music plays continuously.
Editing controls are straightforward but somewhat unlike what you find in today’s iMovie.
Buttons to add text, change resolution, and export are easy to find and use.
Look familiar? It’s somewhat similar to iMovie’s timeline.
Editing operations can be saved as a project document so you can save and resume your work later.
Photo Movie Maker comes with a dozen different subtitle effects, and an option to preview subtitle themes.
Captions can be animated over the photos to enhance the feeling of motion. Using the built-in themes is easy, too. Just grab photos and drop them into the theme.
There are three dozen photo effects, and each photo on a theme can have a different time duration. Photos can also be edited and cropped. The slideshow move can be saved as a movie, exported to iDVD to be burned onto a disk, or exported to iTunes to be synced with iPhone or iPad.
