Who among the Apple faithful doesn’t order a product online and have it delivered right to the door? Whether UPS or FedEx or whatever, we can order almost anything online and have it delivered within a day. Or two. Or three.
Therein lies the problem with home or office delivery. Status. If necessity is the mother of invention then there’s a reason for the Delivery Status Dashboard Widget for the Mac, now available as an iPhone app.
Deliver Me From Evil (waiting)
For years I’ve used the Delivery Status Widget to track packages. Enter the tracking code. Select the carrier. And within seconds you know the packages transit status.
What’s better than Delivery Status for your Mac? Delivery Status for your iPhone. It’s a transit package tracker that connects to the transit carrier’s computer system online and downloads the package’s status and most recent location.
Delivery Status works for UPS, FedEx, USPS, DHL, TNT, and a bunch of others worldwide, including order tracking for Amazon, Apple, Adobe, and even Google Checkout.
Using Delivery Status is a no-brainer operation. Enter the tracking information from your order. Then select the package carrier and you’re good to go.
Delivery Status goes a step better than the Mac Dashboard Widget and displays a map of the package’s most recent location.
Nicely done, right? And not too expensive for the iPhone, though the Mac version is free.
The Delivery Status developer also supplies a way to sync up your package tracking between iPhone and Mac.
Be that as it may, and despite the fact that Delivery Status is very useful, and oft used, it’s missing a few functions that would make it a good iPhone App Store citizen.
Where’s the alerts? How about a feature to alert me to changes in the package’s location? Or, an alarm that sounds telling me the package is on the truck and ready to be delivered?
We may be a few years away from UPS or FedEx being able to tell us the exact location of the delivery truck, but that information would be useful for customers to plan a pickup.
Otherwise, Delivery Status is still a must-have app; Mac or iPhone.
