Photography, as with any creative media, has fashionable trends that come and go.
The trend that’s hot these days is photo images in black and white with a character that pops out of the scene in color. Others have a color tint, or a special frame which sets the image apart. Here’s how to do the same thing for photos on your iPhone and it’s almost free.
Pop. Pop. Pop.
Among my growing collection of one-trick pony photography apps is PopAGraph. It’s not enough that you can just add a filter to a photo to make it different than everything else on Flickr or Facebook or Twitter.
PopAGraph lets you transform photos by introducing a 3D-like effect that makes the photo– or a subject within the photo– seem to pop off the page.
Contrast can be introduced with a few filters in the background, including a unique multi-frame look with many options.
Color and roundness of the frame can be adjusted with a touch, but the highlight of PopAGraph is the option to lift out objects within a photo.
Add frames to photos or select an object within a photo and have it jump out in color, while you change the background.
Take a look.
And a little more.
Frames can be added or combined to form a different shape. And, of course, there’s plenty of Undo and Redo and you’ll never harm the original photo.
And, yes, there’s plenty of the standard buil-tin sharing options, including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Email, and iMessage.
PopAGraph is free. Almost.
While the app is free and comes with both frames and pop-out visual technique tools and backdrop options, there’s a price tag on more filters and more styles.
That’s the nature of many free apps on the App Store these days.
The apps are free or very low cost. But additional functionality can be added from within the app for a few dollars more. PopAGraph is part of that new genre but works quite well.
