How do you think Google, Microsoft, Samsung, Nokia, and friends feel about Apple owning 70-percent of the industry’s profits? They’re desperate. They’re tired as hell. And they’re not going to take it anymore. Here’s the new TV commercial that says it all.
Google and Samsung may have been the first to respond to Apple’s iDevices. Android OS competes with iOS and Google gives it away free to cell phone manufacturers. Desperation, no?
Samsung recognized the future and decided to copy it as close to the atomic level as possible (a self-damaging strategy which will move Apple to other component suppliers).
What of once giant Nokia and the company’s sugar daddy, Microsoft?
Microsoft’s new Windows Phone has gained modest approval from critics and reviewers, especially because it doesn’t completely copy Apple’s iOS.
Nokia, no the other hand, fell behind the new smartphone curve but managed to create a rather well received Lumia line to counter Apple’s iPhone offensive.
Unfortunately, the competitive collective hasn’t done much to derail Apple’s profit gravy train. Now it’s time for the big guns. Microsoft has stepped up to the plate and is swinging for the fences.
What’ve they got? New mobile software? Improved hardware? Nope. A television commercial called Don’t Fight. Switch.
What’s Microsoft really doing besides trying to entertain us?
What the Windows maker is doing is simply pointing out to the hundreds of millions of iPhone, Galaxy, and Android users that they’re stupid clowns who’ve been suckered by Microsoft and Nokia’s competition.
Sure. That’ll go over well. Sure, people are ready to switch to… yet another smartphone from a couple of desperate former players in the mobile industry.
Regardless, Microsoft’s commercial is easily the most entertaining technology food fight you’ve witnessed to date. Enjoy it while it lasts. Microsoft may have awakened but it’s still a lumbering, nearly blind giant of a company.
