Siri, Apple’s intelligent assistant with a voice and an attitude, is the start, of course, but even more important are smart features that Siri can eventually tie into. Here’s another way to improve your iPhone’s Calendar usage and it’s a free app that’s kin to Siri.
The Free Calendar Assistant
As much as I worry about the business model of a free iPhone app, I’m just as willing to know a bargain when I see one. I use Calendar on my iPhone, but here’s a smart calendar add on you’ll love.
Tempo Smart Calendar shares roots with Siri, but not yet functionality. Tempo is an iPhone calendar app that brings some much needed smartness to your fingertips.
With a single finger tap Tempo can dial into conference calls, and handle the entry passcode.
Tempo can send a pre-populated running late email or text to anyone you choose. And, it can get directions and estimate drive times from location to location.
This is all well and good but you’ll need more to be completely satisfied with yet another not-quite-integrated personal assistant.
Tempo is smart enough to review specific email threads that pertain to an upcoming or in-progress meeting.
Related documents can be found and opened, ready for view. And Tempo can contact meeting attendees on phone, email, or text.
The single tap to action option is worthy enough to start using Tempo.
Wait! There’s more.
Tempo can browse meeting attendees LinkIn profiles to get you up to speed on who’s who. It can check flight status, and let you use Siri to create a new Calendar event or meeting.
Tempo isn’t just iPhone centric, either. It can dig into Google Contacts or Outlook Contacts, too. And, it works with Gmail, Yahoo! Mail, iCloud Mail, Exchange, and most IMAP servers (and, it has hooks into LinkedIn, FourSquare, and Yelp!).
These are exactly the kinds of functions you’d expect to see Siri using at some point in the not-too-distant future, but with Tempo they’re available as a fingertip tap. For free.
