The photo enhancement tools are lame. For Mac users who need more photo fixing options than iPhoto provides, start your search with FX Photo Studio Pro, which delivers over 200 photo effects, filters, and frames.
Priced Like A Semi-Pro App
The photo enhancement options in iPhoto are mostly anemic, good for the masses, but not so much for the photographer who demands more.
FX Photo Studio Pro takes you beyond the basics of effects and filters more in tune with Mac users who frequent Photoshop, Lightroom, or Aperture.
170 photo effects and filters are a few clicks away. Choose from dozens of photo borders and frames.
Each of the built-in effects, filters, and frames are fully customizable and display both the original image and customized image side-by-side.
Effects and filters can be adjusted and saved as preset favorites to be used again.
You get quick access to Grunge, Vintage, Vignettes, Hollywood FX, Glow, Lo-Fi, and dozens and dozens more, each easily accessed with a click.
These tools let you customize a photo’s exposure, adjust brightness, improve saturation, as well as make instant changes to contrast, temperature, hues, shadows, highlights and so on.
Photos can be imported from Aperture or iPhoto, and exported to iPhoto, Aperture, as well as Lightroom and Photoshop.
FX Photo Studio Pro is a good Mac citizen and gives you the standard sharing options to Facebook, Tumblr, Flickr, and Twitter. There’s a non-pro version with fewer features at about half the price. The app is developed by the same folks who publish my favorite Mac photo enhancer, Snapheal.
While I’m satisfied with the results from FX Photo Studio Pro, it’s one of the more pricey pro-sumer apps for the Mac. Check the Mac App Store and you’ll find dozens of similar apps, or apps which have a lower number of very good effects for a lower price.
