Trump, one of New York’s more memorable icons, who offers unsolicited advice to politicians, business people, and movie stars, offered some much needed advice to CEO Tim Cook on what Apple must do now to remain relevant.
Super. Size. Me!
The latest Apple-bearing tweet from the Donald is typical Trump, spouting off what he thinks should be done to someone who probably isn’t listening and doesn’t really care (like most of us New Yorkers).
Trumps tweet? “As an addition, Apple must go to a larger screen now–asap! They’re losing their standing in the market!”
Alright, I’m not convinced Apple is losing much since the company is struggling to meet demand for the iPhone, but the point is well taken.
Size matters. It matters to Trump. It matters to me. And once Apple launches an iPhone with a five-inch screen, size will matter to tens of millions of iPhone users.
I wrote an observation about Consumer Reports and their continued mistreatment of the iPhone in ‘What Do You Know About Apple’s iPhone That Consumer Reports Does Not?‘
Consumer Reports dissed the new iPhone line heavily because of screen size and battery life– which is notably less than larger Samsung and Droid models (which don’t sell as well). The two go hand in hand, of course. A bigger phone begets a bigger screen which begets a bigger battery, which begets longer battery life.
Here’s what I think happened. Trump probably has a gold iPhone 5S, maybe one with a 24kt gold case with diamond studs (pun intended). He was at dinner in an elegant New York restaurant with a business associate and friends when he pulled out his little iPhone at the same time someone else pulled out a Samsung Galaxy Note 3.
I imagine Trump felt the need for a few Viagra pills when his little smartphone was visible compared to the much larger Note 3. It’s bigger in every way. Trump’s expensive gold iPhone was smaller in every way. Is it any wonder the Donald fired off a demanding tweet to Tim Cook?
Yes, friends, Apple needs a larger iPhone model, and somewhere around 5-inches would probably help to put a dent in Trump’s Viagra requirements.
