The real question is ‘What should Apple do with the money?‘ Or, put another way, ‘What company should Apple buy next?‘ Here are two options which will make every Mac follower laugh and cry at the same time.
BlackBerry & Microsoft
Here’s a great idea. Apple should buy BlackBerry. At least, it’s a great idea to Rizzi Capital who counts a bunch of reasons why Apple will buy the beleaguered Canadian has been.
Apparently the idea is so far fetched that no one at Rizzi Capital would put a name on the idea or the article.
Alright, I’m easy. Why should Apple buy BlackBerry?
Think of the purchase as a preemptive strike. Apple should buy BlackBerry before anyone else buys BlackBerry.
You know, the way Apple should have bought Motorola to keep it away from Google, or the way Apple should have bought Nokia to keep it away from Microsoft.
Both of those purchases have done so much to shore up Google and Microsoft’s financials. No, wait. That’s not right.
I laughed when I read Rizzi Capital’s reasoning.
BlackBerry still has a large corporate user following which could be used by Apple to help it gain traction in the enterprise market. Enterprise users were early adopters of the BlackBerry platform and BlackBerry smartphones still hold a strong position in the corporate device market.
Except for the fact that Apple has an even stronger hold on the so-called enterprise than even Android, and growth is accelerating thanks to Apple’s increased security measures in iOS.
As BlackBerry users leave the Canadian fold, where do you think they’ll end up?
What About Microsoft?
By the same silly reasoning, maybe Apple should buy Microsoft and put it out of its misery. Apple may need to float a little debt to finance the deal, but what a coup that would be. If you want to run Windows, you’ll need to buy a Mac first.
With Microsoft out of the way, Apple would be free to grab the lion’s share of the PC industry’s profits. No, wait. That’s not right, either. Apple already has the most profits in the smartphone industry, the tablet industry, the PC industry, the app distribution industry, and the online digital media industry.
Why would Apple want to spend money to buy BlackBerry or Microsoft or anyone else sans Samsung and Google, since all the rest are slowly suffocating and starving themselves?
