Or, you can resort to tried and true methods on a Mac. Drag and drop, point and click. You know, WYSIWYG. All you need is a Mac app that makes short work of website design, layout, construction, and implementation.
Rapidly Weave A Website
Mac or Windows PC, there is not a shortage of apps to build websites. You can pay Adobe by the month– forever– for the popular Dreamweaver app, and still need to buy a few books to make it happen.
Or, you can download RapidWeaver to your Mac and put together a website, or as many websites as you want, all drag and drop, point and click.
RapidWeaver comes with dozens of themes; website templates which are customizable to suit your needs.
Custom plugins can be used to enhance RapidWeaver’s functionality, and there are hundreds you can choose, as well as hundreds of additional site designs.
Start your website creation by choosing one of the dozens of theme designs. Each theme can be customized for color, layout, background, logo, and more.
RapidWeaver’s toolbar makes it easy to manage site construction and deployment. Website pages are created one at a time, but easily and automatically linked to a dynamic menu system.
Choose pages from 11 built-in page types– site map, blog, photo albums, contact forms, and so on. Choose the page you need, add content as needed.
What’s the downside? You can never have enough template themes or site design options, and customization beyond that built in to each theme means the laborious process of mucking around in code. Fortunately, the RapidWeaver community has hundreds of additional themes and plugins for more designs and functionality.
What’s missing in many of the theme designs, though, is what is known as responsive web design which adjusts a website layout to match the screen size of mobile devices.
Unfortunately, RapidWeaver is not a hosting service so you’ll need to get your own website domain name, and a service to host your website. However, RapidWeaver will upload the entire site to your host with a couple of clicks, and even recommends an affordable host service with plenty of storage and bandwidth at a competitive price.
Websites designed in RapidWeaver feature static web pages, so they usually load fast in any browser. However, sites and pages are not dynamic as they are in the more complex WordPress world.
