Take my wife’s relatives. Please. The alien I’m referring to here, though, is something of a play on words. It’s an app called AlienConverter and while it won’t convert you to (and probably not from) an alien, it will convert file formats with ease.
Files Are Alien, Too
AlienConverter is a Mac app which converts files from one format to another. If an alien hands you a bunch of Microsoft Word files and you don’t have Office on your Mac, you need to convert the files.
All you need to know is that a file needs converting and be able to handle the standard drag and drop process.
Select a file format, grab the file, drag it to AlienConverter and it will proceed to convert the file to what you want or to a format your Mac understands.
The beauty of using AlienConvert is that you’re not limited to a single file. It handles multiples, too. Even drag multiple files and convert to multiple formats.
Not only does AlienConverter handle the standard Word formats— .doc, .dox, or Open Office’s .odt, but it does RTF, RTFD, .txt, .html, .xhtml, .xml and many more.
It even converts photo or image files from one format to another.
AlienConverter converts images formats to and from .pdf, .jpeg, .gif, .tiff, .bmp, .png, .pict, .psd, but not PDF’s to Word.
It also creates audio files from text files. That’s right. Audio using the Mac’s built-in audio voices. It reads the text and saves it as an audio file.
Alien, indeed. But nice alien; useful even.
