The Mac Maps app is great. As far as it goes. There’s Standard, Hybrid and Satellite views, 3D, traffic, and turn-by-turn directions. What’s not to like? How about measuring distances? Not so easy, right? Or, how about measuring areas? Is there an app for that?
Measure Twice, Cut Once
Enter Geo Measure, the coolest map enhancement app you’ve never seen but will love to use because it does easily what Apple Maps and Google Maps does not.
This clever map answers questions like these: ‘How large is that lot?‘ And, ‘How much acreage is in the field?‘ And, of course, ‘How far is it from here to there?‘
Geo Measure makes it easy to measure distance and area on a map. Distance can be from point to point, easily marked on a map of the locations.
Area can be calculated using multiple points on a geographic area, even irregularly shaped areas (polygons), right on top of the standard map view.
If ever there was a picture worth a thousand words, here it is in one map screenshot.
Geo Measure can measure areas whether rectangular or irregularly shaped. Even better, the app calculates a measured area in acres, hectares, square feet, yards and meters, square miles or kilometers.
For distances, Geo Measure also measures yards and meters, miles, nautical miles, and, of course, kilometers. You choose the mode from a simple drop down box which is overlaid on the map.
What’s missing is coordinate geometry, but Geo Measure is inexpensive and gives measurements quickly and easily.
