Here’s the story of two wealthy men, one of whom knows something about the stock market that you and I don’t know. Apple stock. Should you buy or sell? The answer isn’t all that clear.
Trumped Or Conned?
These are the kinds of stories that I love to cover. On one side, there’s famed investor and corporate raider, Carl Icahn, loading up on Apple stock.
On the other side, there’s the flamboyant Donald Trump, the rich man with an opinion on everything (and proud owner of a $100-million airplane), dumping his Apple stock.
Which of these two men is the fool?
Is it Carl Icahn who admittedly owns about $4-billion of Apple Stock? Or, is it the buffoon Donald Trump who bashes Apple at every turn and loves Samsung (do criminals love criminal companies?).
Obviously, both of them know how to make money by hook or by crook, yet they’re heading in opposite directions with their Apple stock. One is buying. One is selling. Which one is the fool?
What do you think of this?
Icahn on Apple’s stock:
Apple shares are very cheap. They are going at six to seven times earning. It’s not like we are holding something that is trading at 100 times earnings.
What’s Trump’s view of Apple? Early last year:
I have a lot of @Apple stock— and I miss Steve Jobs. Tim Cook must immediately increase the size of the screen on the iPhone. It should be slightly larger than the Samsung screen- and they better get it right fast because they will lose a lot of business. I like the larger screen.
It’s a year later and there’s no larger screen iPhone from Apple. So, Trump dumped his Apple stock. AAPL is hovering around $500 a share. Who is right? Donald Trump or Carl Icahn. Is it time to sell or time to buy?
