Thanks to Apple’s iPhone, those days are gone. Now I spend hours sorting through hundreds of video clips with the same problems and one more problem I didn’t have with photos. Video file conversions. Not every device can handle the same video clips, so a smart conversion app is required. Even better that it’s free.
Smart Is As Smart Does
Most Mac apps that handle photos or videos have a way to convert images or movie clips already built in. And, most of them are limited, or hamstrung, by just a few presets.
Smart Converter is a free Mac video conversion app which makes it drop dead easy to convert a video clip from one format to another, or from one size to another.
Why bother? Because not every video works properly on every device, and the options in iTunes are, and I need to say it with all due respect– limited.
Smart Converter is drag and drop simple. Drag the video clip you want to convert onto the app.
Then, simply choose which output format you want by the device you want to use. Smart Converter handles all the popular devices, but there’s also a list of More… which includes older devices, Android devices, various TVs, even Xbox 360, PSP, and others.
Video file conversions don’t get much easier or faster than that.
Smart Converter will also convert music files, but for more control there’s a separate app called… wait for it… Music Converter. It’s free, too, and it extracts audio content from video files from AVI, FLV, XviD, DivX, FLV, MOV, M4V, WMV, MPEG, MTS, M2TS, RM, 3GP, and converts audio files from MP3, FLAC, WAV, WMA, M4A, AIFF, FLV to MP3, AAC, M4A (Apple Lossless), M4R (iPhone Ringtone), FLAC, WAV and many others.
Why free? That’s not much of a business model, right? Well, in this case free is good, though there are pro versions of both Smart Converter and Music Converter which adds iTunes integration, custom settings, batch processing and much more.
Still, free is good.
