All your music, movies, documents, photos– dead. Gone. That’s why a backup plan is important, and there is no shortage of options to backup; clones, Time Machine, DVDs, USB flash disk, external disk drives, online storage. Here’s one that’s cheap and easy.
Backup Buddy is not as simple to use as Time Machine, but it’s close enough to consider. That is, if you have an extra external hard disk to use.
You need that for Time Machine so why not buy another? To be fair about this right up front, Backup Buddy is not a backup utility I would use.
Backup Buddy does three things I like, though. One is that it’s simple to use. Click the plus button to create a backup profile. Select what you want to backup and where.
Also, Backup Buddy does incremental backups. That means it only backs up files on the target backup that have been changed. That speeds up the backup process tremendously.
Finally, you can decide which files to backup. It’s not all or nothing as it is with many backup apps. Each backup project can be scheduled to run on specific dates and times.
Backup Buddy also does chronological backups, taking a cue from Time Machine. That saves disk space. You can also backup files to an OS X disk image, just in case you need to store files on a non-Mac network disk.
It’s not loaded with bells and whistles but Backup Buddy has a good balance of features and is priced right.
