One thing they all want is a way to know how much time they have left to talk. You can use a watch, watch the wall clock, use a timer, or, if you’re lucky enough to have a friend or colleague with a Mac notebook, the free app Speech Timer may be all you need.
Simple Is, As Simple Does
What is special and different about Speech Timer when compared with other countdown timers for the Mac is the option to name speakers and their talks, and the absolutely freakin’ huge timer numbers.
Speech Timer isn’t just a timer. It’s also a reminder. A reminder of how many minutes or seconds remain in a talk or presentation.
The timer can also display the name of the current speaker, the name of the speaker’s talk or presentation, and a few other useful bells and whistles.
For example, Speech Time has a status board, clearly and easily visible from the Mac’s screen to the speaker’s podium.
The built-in status board also flashes in green, yellow, or red to signal the speaker during the talk.
The timer can be displayed in fullscreen mode on supported Macs. Speech Timer is perfectly suited for a day of talks as it can list the starting time and actual time used for each speaker, session by session.
The data can be saved or shared as a spreadsheet-compatible file.
Using Speech Timer is about as easy as entering a speaker’s name and selecting the talk type, then setting the allotted time, and clicking the Start button.
Not bad for free.
