Regardless of what Apple delivers, it won’t be as plum amazing as PhotoMatte, a new montage, collage, layout, and graphic editor for the Mac. Photo collage apps are often a dime a dozen but you’ll be impressed with the professional level tools in this one.
Like. Plum. Amazing.
As you’ll see in a few moments, the reference to plum amazing is a play on words. Not as playful is the serious nature of PhotoMatte.
While most Mac photo collage apps give you a dozen pre-designed collage layouts, with simple tools to adjust color, background, and frame width, PhotoMatte thinks different.
How so? The app is more of a layout and graphics editor that also produces highly customizable and unique photo montages or collages.
That’s right. It’s a layout tool. Think Adobe Illustrator meets a photo collage.
All the built-in tools are there to customize the layout so each photo collage or montage is completely unique, built to match your photos.
You select the montage or collage background image, and drop in photo frames to match whatever layout you need.
Use real photos or placeholders to get the layout exactly the way you want. Tools give you options for frame, color, shadow, radius, distance, and– a first– angle and proportions of the collage or montage photo frame.
Despite all the customizable options, PhotoMatte has a friendly mode, too. Select from dozens of templates and backgrounds, then simply drag and drop your photos into the presets. Choose from a couple of dozen frames, nearly 18 effects, or hard many dozens of graphic objects to enhance your montage or collage.
Tooltip and Hints make using the granular tools easier, including custom masks, textures, effects, and even a 3D layout effect.
What is it about PhotoMatte that’s plum amazing? Yes, it’s a play on words. The developer’s company is named Plum Amazing. Sorry. I couldn’t help myself.
