As long as I’ve used a Mac I’ve had issues with the Finder. Apple has improved it much in recent versions of OS X– love the tabs. But I miss the colored icons in the sidebar. Likewise, Spotlight has been around a few years and I still find it messy to use. This app is easier.
Find Easy With EasyFind
The search for free but usable utilities for the Friday Freebie usually does not take much effort. At least, not much effort to find free apps.
The real effort is finding an app that’s free and one you want to use everyday. If you’re a Mac user who wants to go beyond Finder and Spotlight, try EasyFind.
This clever utility is merely another way to search for files and folders on your Mac.
Wait. Does not Spotlight do the same thing? Yes. And not so much. Spotlight relies on file indexing and that can hog your Mac’s resources when you least want it.
EasyFind is just fast and easy. It’s a standalone app with a search field and a list of buttons to refine the search criteria.
EasyFind looks like it should be part of the Mac’s Finder. It does not rely on Spotlight’s suspect indexing technique, does not use much memory, and it’s fast (not to mention free).
Enter keywords to search, select the criteria from the sidebar, and EasyFind displays the search results. Select an item from the search list and view a Preview of the file.
Not bad for free, right?
