Almost unwittingly, mostly because Samsung is somewhat witless when it advertises Samsung vs. Apple outside of a courtroom, the Korean smartphone, chip, and refrigerator behemoth helped Apple advertise the iPhone 6 Plus’ bigger screen. That’s why Samsung is such a sad song.
iPhone Issues List
Instead of focuses on Apple’s past, Samsung focused advertising on Apple’s present and future. Why would a pioneer maker of large screen smartphones want to tell their customers there’s a better model available and it’s from Apple?
Why not focus on Apple’s problems of the past? What problems? Hasn’t every new iPhone model sold better and faster than the previous iPhone models?
Yes, of course, but, well, you remember Antennagate, right? The iPhone 4 had to be held a certain way to get the best reception. Yes, that’s pretty much like every smartphone, but we hold Apple to a different standard, and Samsung missed that opportunity.
Then there was the iPhone 5 disaster. Apple has little difficulty with ‘out with the old, and in with the new‘ except when the old was Google’s Maps and the new was Apple Maps, and the latter didn’t work all that well for, oh, about a year (and it cost iOS head honcho Scott Forstall his job).
Where was Samsung during that fiasco?
Our favorite sad song company simply has no sense of timing. Or, common sense. Or, luck. But it does have a lock on plastic cases, and a handle on boorish-to-obnoxious television commercials which make fun of a few hundred million iPhone users in a lame attempt to get them to switch from Apple to Samsung by insulting their choices in smartphones.
Instead, Samsung highlights features such as the cumbersome-to-use split-screen capability on tablets. Or, lets the world know that Samsung’s latest and greatest has a battery saving feature (which basically turns off everything except the phone, including color on the screen) and more features bolted on that even Microsoft could do to Windows and Office combined (and that’s saying something).
The reality is this. Samsung is locked to Google, a marriage of convenience but without honor or love. Samsung is to Google and Android what HP, Compaq, Lenovo, IBM, Dell, and every other Windows PC maker is and was to Microsoft’s Windows and Office. Samsung cannot survive without the parasite Google, as other PC makers cannot survive without Windows and Office.
Oh, how long and sad that song, Samsung.
