Maybe there’s a way to lock down a Mac or a PC so tightly that nobody can hack into it, but it’s likely no one could use it, either. What we need are some built-in tools which notify Mac users when our machines are being used by someone else. Here’s an app that helps and it’s free.
None. Of. Your. Business.
NOYB stands for ‘none of your business.’ It’s a useful app that adds another layer of security to your Mac to protect your privacy. What does NOYB do?
NOYB resides in the Mac’s Menubar and sits in the background to monitor your Mac’s camera and microphone.
If either microphone or camera gets used you’ll get a notification and NOYB will log the data.
News reports over the past year disclosed that schools have spied on their students by using the computer’s built-in camera and microphone. Another report said the FBI has a covert way to use a built-in camera without turning on the ‘on’ light.
Yet another news report disclosed that millions of Yahoo webcam images were intercepted, and some malicious websites can activate both camera or microphone without your knowledge.
NOYB simply gives you a notification whenever the Mac’s camera or microphone are accessed (even if you’re the one using either one). Most Mac users don’t have to worry much about hackers and security, but every little bit of privacy saved is security gained. NOYB isn’t bad for free.
