Mac users have plenty of choices for text editors, from the venerable BBEdit to the free Text Wrangler to the built-in Text Edit app. What if you want to edit text on iPhone and iPad and keep documents in sync with your Mac?
From. Think. Pro.
Just between you and me, I have more than enough text editors, but few that work on all three of my beloved iDevices, let alone one with a monicker stranger than Moon Zappa, and a misnamed product description.
Enter To Writer Pro, a text editor that’s multi-platform and perfect for iDevice owners who need to work on editing this or that on multiple devices.
To Writer Pro?
Yes, there needs to be some kind of industry clearing house for app names. First, to avoid naming an app with a name that’s already been used, and second, to avoid naming an app that doesn’t make any sense (Pro or otherwise), and third, to avoid an app description that doesn’t jibe with the industry’s standards.
To Writer Pro looks like a good, uh, um, well, word processor. It’s not a true blue text editor that gets used to program this or code that. A text editor does not a word processor make. Or, in reverse.
So, To Writer Pro is really a mini-word processor that happens to have an iOS companion app and iCloud support, and it does all the basic word processor functions like styled fonts, colors, alignment, photo or image drop ins– those kinds of things.
Being able to edit the same document on Mac, iPhone, or iPad is a plus, of course, but note that the Mac version costs ten times what the iPhone and iPad version of To Writer Pro costs. And use of the term ‘Pro’ in the title is just plain wrong. ‘Pro’ implies professional or advanced or upgraded features. To Writer Pro is a minimalist word processor, not a true text editor, but, it does work well (there’s no try-before-you-buy option).
