Alarm clock and timer apps for the Mac are a dime a dozen. No, seriously. Many are free, a few might boast a price tag of a dollar or two, but what they do is what you expect an alarm clock or timer to do.
What if an alarm clock came along that just went crazy with features that all started from time? I’m talking options like start up apps according to a schedule, countdown to an event and then launch an app or action. Yep, such Mac apps exist. Here’s the best one.
Alarm Clock Pro has come a long, long way from a mere alarm clock with scheduled alarms. It only makes sense that an alarm clock on a computer should do more than merely sound an alarm, right?
Yes, the usual array of stopwatches and timers are built in to Alarm Clock Pro, but that’s not the claim to fame. Perhaps it all started with an option to play music from iTunes according to a schedule.
There’s more. In fact, it’s a lengthy laundry list of more that’s continually growing. Sure, startup a playlist to get you out of bed or send you to sleep at night, but Alarm Clock Pro can also stream music or talk from a web radio station at just the right time.
Speaking of time, there’s the option to automatically send yourself email reminders, or customized text messages– according to a schedule or an action. Alarm Clock Pro can snap a photo from your Mac’s camera or capture an image of the screen and send it to you (or save it for later retrieval; good for home security).
Silence might be golden but Macs have speakers and a built-in speaking voice so Alarm Clock Pro can announce or read text, display visual alerts, tell you the time for anywhere on the planet, and even do something extravagant– like calculate the difference between two time periods.
Alarm Clock Pro is more of a timer action utility than clock. It’s also loads of fun to use. Setup alarms, timers, countdown timer, world clocks, then assign specific actions to times. This is not your grandfather’s stopwatch.
There’s also a Windows version and that brings me to the only real negative about Alarm Clock Pro. There’s a lot going on in Alarm Clock Pro so the learning curve goes well beyond most timer and alarm apps for the Mac. Also, Alarm Clock Pro 2015 is not the ACP of the past, though it shares much of the same functionality of the older versions.
Comprehensive? Yes. Convoluted? A bit. Highly enjoyable to setup and use? Uh, depends. But it’s packed with features and worthy of the trial version.
