We Mincey folk have a variety of human interests, cultivated through the generations but summed up by a bottle of good bourbon, trips to Las Vegas or the nearby Atlanta ponies, playing poker with friends and enemies, and partaking of a good cigar. Oh, and gambling in the stock market.
No matter how you slice and dice it, investing in companies traded on Wall Street is gambling at the basest level.
Gambling Investing in a company is sanctioned by the government, socially acceptable, but pretty much an effort in gambling nonetheless.
Winning And Losing
If you have to gamble, tracking winnings and loses (losings?) should be easy, right? It is thanks to Stock + Pro which resides in my Mac’s Menubar and isn’t timid about telling me how much I’ve won or lost on a given stock or a particular day.
Here’s how it works. Install Stock + Pro on your Mac, set up your portfolio, then sit back and watch your winnings roll in, or your life’s savings disappear, either from the ticker in the Menubar or via any one of five colorful skins in the app.
Stock + Pro lets you adjust the view of scrolling, stock name (symbol vs. name). That’s combined with options to track stocks, indexes, funds, ETFs, exchange rates, and even commodities.
Wait. There’s more. Stock market and business news is available within Stock + Pro, and your winnings or losings are graphable and laughable. Line, bar, candle style graphs make it easy to see which stock to keep and which to unload.
Historic data is easily tracked by mousing over the graphs, but switching between views is nothing more than a click, with data going backwards as far as five years.
There isn’t much not to like here except insight on which stocks to buy and which to avoid. My personal preference is simply to buy the same stocks that rich people buy. Misery loves company.
Stock + Pro has real time quotes for some exchanges, business and company news, fullscreen charts and overlays, plus specific stock alerts, and even extended hour quotes.
Here’s the good news. Stock + is free but has limits, while Stock + Pro has a nominal price tag but all the features unlocked and ready to use as you snooze and lose in the greatest gambling paradise outside of Las Vegas. Wall Street.
