iCloud Drive mostly works. Mostly. For the Mac. It does not work exactly the same way for iPhone and iPad but allow me to focus on what we love best. The Mac. For now, how do you backup your iCloud Drive files? Here are two inexpensive methods.
iCloud. Drive. Backup.
If the files you keep in iCloud Drive are important, then it’s important to have them backed up somewhere else. Some Mac users keep extra clones of the Mac’s disk drive. Others copy important files to an external disk, or a USB flash drive, because off-premise helps to avoid the catastrophic failure; flood or storm damage, earthquake, theft, or hacks.
Unclouder specializes in iCloud Drive backups with a set of features you won’t find in other backup utilities.
Instead of simply creating a copy backup of the files and folders in iCloud Drive, Unclouder not only makes a backup, it also makes version backups so even older files which have changed or been deleted may still be retrieved; especially useful if you’re not into Time Machine as an option..
However, Unclouder is much like having a personalized Time Machine app just for iCloud Drive files.
Unclouder is simple enough to use for the average Mac user and doesn’t require any special experience. Select the iCloud Drive backup content by folder which then displays how much data is being stored, and a list of the most recent backups. Click on and you get access to previously backed up files.
You can create backups when you prefer, and all data is saved on your Mac, but you control how much space is used by Unclouder. Restoring files is simple, too. Select the file you want to restore from the backups, click the Restore button.
Another way to backup iCloud Drive files is with SyncTime, which can do an automated as an in-the-background backup whenever files are changed, deleted, or added to the iCloud Drive folder.
SyncTime lacks the file version and restore options found in Unclouder.
I have yet to find an easier and faster way to save and restore iCloud Drive files. Unclouder is easier to use than the Dropbox backup options.
