Tabs are everywhere these days. Alright, except in Apple TV’s still 1999-sh interface, but, hey, that’s Apple. Search through the Mac App Store and you’ll find a bunch of tab-like apps that use the Mac’s Menubar to drop down an app that does this or that. If you’re into Google Calendar here’s one you’ll like and can afford.
Goodbye Calendar, Hello Google
Right up front let me state the obvious. I’m not a Google fan. Free apps are nice but the price is too much. Price? Google culls personal information from you and makes a profit it on it. ‘Nuff said. Whether you prefer Apple’s version of Calendar or Google Calendar is more of a personal preference than an ideology. Both are calendars. Both work.
With MenuTab Pro for Google Calendar you get the calendar with a click to the Mac’s Menubar. Click, and ye shall receive your calendar details.
There’s not much to it. Or, put another way, MenuTab Pro for Google Calendar works and looks much like other Menubar drop down calendars for Apple’s Calendar on the Mac.
The date is displayed in the Menubar. Adding an event is a click, then add, then click. Calendars can be shared with others, synced to your iPhone (there’s Google Calendar now for iPhone).
View the month and day with a click to the Menubar, or use the desktop mode to see a giant Google Calendar which looks and works much like Calendar on the Mac. Except it’s Google Calendar.
What else is there to like? Not much, but Google Calendar does bring some features that Mac Calendar users may prefer. Opacity control. Keyboard shortcuts. Desktop mode and Menubar mode. Email and text reminders.
Hey, it’s a calendar app that’s priced right but presents a viable app alternative to the Mac’s Calendar with access to Google Calendar.
MenuTab Pro for Google Calendar hasn’t been updated for more than a year. It still works, but seems like part of a growing trend of abandonware, and this from a Mac app developer with a few dozen apps, and most of them haven’t been updated in a year to three years.
Let’s go with caveat emptor, instead.
