Now, try that same technique for, say, five files. Each is renamed the same way. Select, hit Return, type in the new name. Over and over again. Tedious, but not bad with a half dozen or so files. What if you have 100 files that need to be renamed? Or hundreds? Or a thousand? Thoughts of repetitive stress syndrome (carpal tunnel syndrome for some) go dancing in your head, right? Here’s a solution.
Free. Click. Rename.
Renaming files should not be a tedious, time consuming, fraught-with-errors effort. It’s a computer. Shouldn’t computers do tedious things for us? That’s what Transnomino does. This interestingly named utility is free and all it does is what you need to have done to prevent repetitive stress injuries.
Transnomino renames files by the dozens, hundreds, or thousands. Select the files to rename. Set the parameters. View the new file name. Click Go to get it done.
As you can see in the image above, Transnomino works with point and click. Click to add a Number sequence. Click to change some text in the file name string. Click to add a Change Case option.
You’ll see the original file name with extensions to the left, and to the right, Transnomino will display the transformed file name before you make the changes.
Click the Go button and Transnomino does the file rename transformations on hundreds or thousands of files immediately. What’s not to like. It’s free.
For example, lets say you want to add numbers to the file names. Click the Number button as above, select the type of numbering scheme, number of digits, starting number for a sequence, and even add a separator.
Click. Click. Done.
Hundreds or thousands of file names get renamed while you watch though you won’t have to watch too long. Transnomino is fast. And, considering the lack of a price tag, Transnomino is smart, too.
That’s right. Transnomino is no dumb bunny. It has Regular Expression capability built-in so you can get all down and dirty on file renaming, which can get complicated if you have a bunch of files with oddly disparate file names. And, again, you get to see the results before you click the Go button.
Did I mention Transnomino is free?
Even better than free is the option to save a setting for renaming files so you can rename files the same way again at another time.
Not bad for free.
