As collectors, though, we have our favorite items; beer, whiskey, poker games, cameras, and for me, calculators. Not only does my calculator collection extend to a few dozen of the analog devices of yesteryear, my Mac is graced with a couple of dozen calculators including one you’ve likely never used.
Type, And Ye Shall Calculate
Numi is a totally Think Different™ calculator for Mac users. First, it’s a bit of a text editor mashed up with a calculator that supports plain English computations.
For example, open Numi and type in ’10 mm plus 27 mm’ and Numi displays the answer inline, somewhat akin to a calculators tape or paper output. There’s also a built-in unit converter which handles length, area, volume, time, data size, temperature, and currency.
Take a look.
Numi’s developer has a wonderful short video which walks through all you can do as you type and it’s impressive. Numi is free for now during the beta phase, comes with a configurable hotkey to open it up on screen, both Dock and Menubar modes, and the calculations are instant as you type.
But wait. There’s more for the price of nothing.
Numi comes with both a Night and Menubar mode, a global hotkey, syntax highlighting, the standard share fare, and it can print.
As if that isn’t enough for the price of free, Numi comes with a Notification Center Widget so you can launch the app there as well.
Is there no end to what you get for free?
There’s nothing to not like about Numi, including the price tag (which remains free). It calculates, converts, and has both Menubar and Dock modes so it’s easily accessible. What’s not to like?
