Sorry. I couldn’t help myself. It’s just too easy to do in the age of sensationalism and fake news. This isn’t news, though. It’s good old fashioned conjecture, but somewhat based upon the Gregorian calendar, with a layer of innate common sense, frosted with a touch of hope.
2017 will be the year that Pipeline Timmy– also known as Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook– will reveal the future to the doubting digital Thomases; members of the Walled Garden Ecosystem all, the company’s new products; destined to right the wrongs of the past, and fill the coffers of One Infinite Loop in Cupertino, CA, while mollifying those wretched Apple naysayers.
2017 must be the year for Apple’s supercycle, that place in the space time continuum where everything comes together and Apple refreshes the product line of, well, every product. Look for them coming to an Apple Store near you. New Macs. New iPads. New Watch. New Apple TV. And, yes. new iPhones (duh).
First, the iPad line will get refreshed during the Perfect Storm of product upgrades and probably sooner rather than later. Because iPad Pro models are in short supply on the Apple online store. We might even see a new iPhone SE model just because. Well, because last year’s model is still selling as new this year.
Second, later this spring, Apple’s much anticipated WWDC (World Wide Developer’s Conference 2017) will reveal the latest in Apple’s operating systems; iOS, macOS, watchOS, even tvOS (but not likely carOS or anything to do with Apple Car).
Third, it’s time for a few new Macs and what better time than at WWDC? Sure, they won’t ship anytime soon thereafter, but Apple will announce what we’ve all waited for. Upgraded Mac mini. Upgraded iMac. And the long awaited and most powerful of all the powerful Macs, the Mac Pro (just in time to stick it to all those who thought Apple couldn’t innovate anymore… again).
Lastly, Apple Watch isn’t in need of an upgrade as much as the Mac and iPhone or iPad, but upgrade it will get because Apple thinks the future is wearable technology, and Watch paves the way for an augmented reality product where our favorite Cupertino, CA technology giant shows the Mountain View Googlites how it’s done (remember Google Glass?).
Surprise! A new Apple TV is on the way later this year, and this one will get 4K video just in time for 4K video everywhere. Well, not everywhere. Most cable TV still runs minimum HD but 4K television prices are dropping fast, and the iPhone already records 4K video, so why not, huh, Apple?
Look at all those product refreshes. Is that not the supercycle you were waiting for? It’s a good thing we didn’t have to hold our collective breaths (wouldn’t have made it through the election anyway; but now we’re holding our collective noses at politics and media). Yes, friends and neighbors, boys and girls, guys and dolls– Apple’s supercycle season has begun. Everything gets made new.
One more thing™.
Wouldn’t Apple Glasses launched in 2017 show the world just how Apple can truly innovate and shake up staid only technology markets like it once did?
It’s time to get those training wheels off the supercycle, Apple, and show everyone that Pipeline Timmy is a superhero.
