True that, but the Dock gets crowded so I dragged my Applications folder to the Dock where it resides in the righthand corner. Click on the Applications folder and it displays the icons of everything in the folder; all the apps. Guess what I found?
Super Is A Cliché
These days we overuse words so much so that they often lose meaning. Super is one such word. There’s Superman. Supersize. Supercharge. Superbug. And websites which list all the words with ‘super’ inside (Scrabble users love that). Guess how many apps on my Mac have ‘super’ inside?
More than a dozen apps grace my new Dock app launcher with Super somewhere in the title. There’s SuperDuper, the Mac backup clone utility. There’s Super Denoising and Super Eraser. There’s also SuperPhoto, Super Refocus, Super Screenshot, SuperPing, SuperDesktop, and a game called Super Ice Cream Maker (99-cents; it was a weak moment). Surely a superhero would use Super PhotoCut.
This app does what Adobe put into a Photoshop version a few years back– a simpler way to remove unwanted objects or backgrounds from a photo which isolates the foreground object. That makes Super PhotoCut good for removing a background and leaving only the object from the foreground.
Here’s an example.
As easy as it is to remove a background and leave only a foreground object from the original photo, it does require a little trial and error, but even then it reduces the amount of effort to minutes. The built-in live preview helps to make sure you remove only those sections or pieces of the background that you want, leaving only the foreground object as a transparency which can be exported as a transparent PNG file.
The zoom in feature gives you a close up of a section which makes it easier to remove background elements cleanly by using a configurable brush size.
Backgrounds can be either transparent or color and Super PhotoCut also has a large number of background transition effects to use.
- Disc Blur
- Gaussian Blur
- Box Blur
- Motion Blur
- Zoom Blur
- Color Controls
- Exposure Adjust
- Gamma Adjust
- Hue Adjust
- Color Invert
- Color Posterize
- Chrome, Fade
- Instant, Mono, Process
- Transfer, Sepia Tone
- Vignette, Vignette Effect
- Bump Distortion
Because Super PhotoCut removes a background and leaves a foreground image on a transparency you can drop another image in as the background. The app also differs a bit from the popular Snapheal app which we’ve reviewed before. Snapheal removes unwanted objects but fills in the background to cover up the hole.
Super PhotoCut is a good app to use to get rid of image backgrounds for items to be sold on eBay, too. Nicely done, not too expensive, but it takes a steady hand to get a clean mask on some foreground images.
