For those of us who slave over a hot keyboard most of the day, we know this sedentary lifestyle is not good for our health, and we need a break from all the intense focus our screens and keyboards demand. Enter JustFocus.
What’s In A Name?
Pomodoro is a time management technique that is time honored. Set a schedule to work for a specific time and focus on getting something done. Then break away for a few minutes. The oddly named JustFocus app for the Mac does that. It lets you take a break from, well, all that focus. This is a technique with legs, but it requires some discipline.
Set it up this way. Point and click.
Click to start the timer. Click to set the breaks; either long or short. And, of course, click to set Preferences.
When it comes time to take a break JustFocus pops up the timer with the amount of time for your break (which you control). The background image in the timer is auto-refreshed every day. There’s also an option to set a password to protect access to your Mac’s screen.
JustFocus can block the Mac’s entire screen, prevent keyboard and mouse use and that forces you to take a real break. It even works on Macs with multiple screens– such as a MacBook with an external display.
Statistics? Got ’em.
Not bad for free, right? And it gets plenty of four and five star reviews on the Mac App Store.
