There are times when we need to recognize that some of the best things in life are simple, easy to use, and almost free. One of my favorite apps for iPhone and iPad is the Apple Clock app. Why is there not a counterpart for macOS?
Even a simple timer is not built-in to macOS but there are plenty available and here’s one that gives you change back from a dollar. It’s called Range. Timers just don’t get simpler, easier to use, or cost less than this.
Click To Time
Really, that’s about all you need to figure out how to use Range. Open the app, click the green Start button and Range begins timing time. Click the red X button to stop the timer.
Take a look at simplicity and elegance personified.
Click green to Start. Click red to Stop. Range times whatever you want.
Here’s how I use Range. First, I always have something that needs to be done over a period of time; 10 minutes, half an hour, an hour and 10 minutes, or whatever. Second, the built-in Notes field reminds me of what the timer is tracking and that helps to keep me on focus.
Click green to Start the timer. Click Red to Stop. The Notes field is optional.
Not bad for less than a dollar, right?
What Range needs is the reverse of a timer– a countdown. Click to set a time on the timer. Click when the amount of time ends. That would be a big plus. Otherwise, simple is better and less is more..
