Live video streaming has become all the rage in the past few years, and was given a big lift into public consciousness last year by Facebook with the implementation of Facebook Live.
Basically, your camera becomes a live video of whatever you point it at; whether news, Jackass events, weddings, criminal activity, or surveillance. An iPhone and Facebook becomes a live video that captures and distributes the moment to your friends, family, authorities or anyone who tunes in. But what if you want more professional products on the fly? There’s an app for that.
One of my favorite Mac utility app developers is Ecamm, maker of iGlasses, and both Skype and FaceTime call recorder apps, has something new for Facebook Live. It’s an app called Ecamm Live and it adds production effects to a Facebook Live video stream.
With Ecamm Live you can overlay text graphics onto your Facebook Live video stream, check your audience size, few Facebook comments, and see reactions within the app. That means you can add text over the video and sprinkle it with various animations.
This is something Facebook Live users can get excited about. Not only does Ecamm Live give you animations and text overlays, it can also stream a video you created, and even add a picture-in-picture where you can stream a video on Facebook Live but narrate it with a live PiP option.
Here’s a screenshot of a live Mac screen with a Picture-in-Picture live video being broadcast on Facebook Live. Sweet.
If all this sounds rather simple, well it is. The Ecamm Live app is from developers who have worked on Mac video capture and camera apps for many years. Customer support through the years has been remarkable. For example, a user requested the option to use an older camcorder and now Ecamm Live does.
As they say, the proof is in the taste of the pudding so Ecamm offers a trial version with all the goodies ready to use. Setup is straightforward and you can be live streaming in just a few minutes.
Caveats? Yes. Be careful what you stream.
Ecamm Live on your Facebook account is a live video so wear appropriate clothing and use appropriate language for your target viewers. Use Ecamm Live to stream your Mac’s screen to others with a PiP camera inside the video. Create your own video productions on iPhone, edit on your Mac, then stream the video to your followers on Facebook.
This is way cool to be your own Facebook broadcaster and it just works.
