Somehow, within an instant, the mess desk was transformed in a paragon of organization, tidiness, and cleanliness. How? Easy. Just before his boss or a customer arrived for a meeting, he would scrape everything off the desktop into the top most desk drawer. What if your Mac’s screen is equally messy?
For most of the past 14 years Mac360’s mission has been to find and review applications you can use; apps that go beyond Apple, Microsoft, or Adobe. We write about what we use ourselves, what we would recommend to family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers, knowing there’s an implied element of support for each one.
Hides gets rid of visual clutter by calming a messy Mac display.
Focus Mode enables you to quickly hide all apps except the app you’re currently working in. Once enabled, let Hides take care of business, so you can work. Focus mode helps you to target your attention on what is directly in front of you! It can be configured globally or for specific Apps, and is super easy to enable or disable.
How easy is this?
Hides comes with easy to configure keyboard shortcuts, but once it’s setup it’s mostly forget it. It just works and does one thing. It hides what you don’t want to view.
Invisible is different. It hides files so only you know where they are on your Mac.
- Hide personal documents quickly
- Password protect your hidden files
- Quickly clear your desktop (useful for taking screenshots)
- Quicklook and editing of hidden documents is possible from within Invisible
Files that you turn invisible can also be password protected (but not encrypted; this is for convenience, not ultimate security– you know; out of sight, out of mind).
Not too shabby, right?
An option to encrypt files would be useful, though. Invisible and Hides are just a few bucks each and add an extra layer of security and privacy to your ability to focus on a single app at a time. That makes your Mac’s Desktop workplace look clean to prying eyes, and clean to your own eyes as you focus on a single app at a time and avoid visual distractions.
