Anything else? In a sense, Apple, Facebook, and Google, all have something in common with a newly discovered wasp species from the Amazon. What does the wasp do? It turns spiders into zombies. Who is the wasp? And who is the spider?
Think about it this way. Apple, Google, and Facebook manage to keep their customers and users in a zombie-like trance to do their bidding. How is that any different than the Amazon wasp overlords and the group spiders that become its prey?
A female wasp targets one of the spiders and lays an egg on the arachnid. Then, when the egg hatches, the larva latches on to the spider and feeds off of it.
That isn’t exactly uncommon. Humans are hosts to many teeny tiny creatures that go along for the ride. But most of them don’t turn us into zombies.
The larva doesn’t leave the spider after growing to a certain point but instead takes over the spider’s body, causing it to carry out specific tasks. The spider is forced to leave its colony and construct a web cocoon.
In essence, the newly formed wasp larva becomes the overlord and the spider becomes the zombie creature.
The larva then eats the spider and uses the newly-constructed cocoon as its home while it matures into a full-grown wasp, starting the cycle all over again.
Uh oh. The rich get richer meme extends to the insect and arachnid world. The wasp is the rich overlord. The spider becomes the zombie. And lunch.
That entire scenario is not far removed from Apple’s customers and Google and Facebook’s users. We do their bidding and keep them alive to prosper. Eventually, we die.
The wasp completely hijacks the spider’s behaviour and brain and makes it do something it would never do, like leave its nest and spinning a completely different structure… That’s very dangerous for these tiny spiders.
I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling like one of those tiny spiders right now. After all, Apple raised prices on every new product this year, and I gleefully stood in line to buy the latest glitter.
Everyone knows that Google and Facebook track you online, suck personal and private date from your walking talking carcass, and turn it into monetary profit by selling the data in such a way that you are manipulated by unscrupulous advertisers– product or political– for their gain and your loss.
Zombie spiders, meet zombie customers and users.
