iMac, iTunes, iPod, iTunes Music Store, iPhone, iPad. Then, compare that with the Accessories King, Tim Cook with Apple Pay, Watch, and AirPods; all iPhone accessories. It’s time for Apple’s next great thing.
Hello, Apple Van!
Hey, Siri, Apple Van
Apple under Cook continues to upgrade and innovate the product line, but hasn’t take any big risks. Apple did not buy Tesla when it was affordable. What car company is more like Apple than Tesla? Apple did not buy Netflix when it was affordable. Who puts more money into video content than Netflix?
What can Apple do? Go back to the future.
First, where is the future going? Electric cars, right? You’re half right. Many of the industry’s prognosticators and technology futurists say the future will be self-driving, mostly autonomous vehicles– that can be summoned on demand. That means we won’t buy cars as much as use Siri to get one to take us where we need to go, then use Siri to get one to take us back home again.
Cars. On. Demand.
So far, Apple has spent billions to tens of billions to build an entry into the future; sans Tesla. Project Titan might be a self-driving car, but that’s not the future. That future is here already and every manufacturer of note already has their own version of an electric car, and most are semi-autonomous, and most are soon to be fully self-driving.
Where the future is headed is not to an era where our vehicles sit for 90-percent of the time each day, but where we have true ride-sharing; we share the vehicle with others, or simply summon an autonomous vehicle to take us wherever we desire.
If Apple isn’t working on that then it should have bought Tesla and Netflix, promoted Elon Musk to CEO, and sent Tim Cook packing as Chairman Emeritus. The future is not an electric car in every driveway or a chicken in every pot. It’s not even an iPhone in every back pocket. The future is autonomous vehicles that can be summoned when needed, and sent packing to someone else’s house to take the kids to school or take someone to work. Or, the mall. Or, a doctor’s appointment.
It’s time to look forward, Apple. That means goodbye, Apple Car; we hardly knew ye. Hello, Apple Van.
