Samsung was first to bring one to the market and so far it isn’t going well. Early users have had their Samsung Galaxy Fold break. Now you can see why Apple doesn’t jump onto every trendy train that passes by. Fold is priced at $2,000. What can you get from Apple for $2,000?
Obviously we’re not comparing Apple to apples here, but $2,000 is not chump change for a phone with a big display. That breaks. So, I decided to walk down Apple’s product list to see what you can get for the same money.
A Mac mini weighs in at $799. A new entry-level iPad is only $329. Apple Watch Series 4 starts at $399. The 4.7-inch iPhone 7 begins at $449.
Do the math. The grand total is $1,976. That’s for a Mac, an iPad, Apple Watch, and an iPhone with a camera good enough to be used in feature length movies. The $1,976 price tag is within pocket change of Samsung’s Galaxy Fold.
For the same money you get four devices, more screen real estate, one device that fits in your pocket, another that easily goes into a backpack or bag, and one you can wear on your wrist.
What’s not to like about that comparison?
Let’s go up a few notches. iPhone XR is the latest and greatest and you can get one for a mere $749. iPad Pro starts at $799. Apple Watch Series 4 is $399.
That grand total is $1,947.
Compared to a folding smartphone that breaks quickly, stacking up some Apple gear seems like more value, right?
