Is it the Apple brand? That alone brings buyers to the door. Is it the fact that both macOS and iOS are relatively safe from malware (at least, when compared to Windows OS)? That would go on the list. What else?
This idea of Apple’s best feature has been rolling around in my head for a few weeks and I made a list. Then I asked Nathan and he delivered the proper answer. Where is one feature that absolutely positively makes Windows and Android pale by comparison.
Updates and upgrades. Nobody does it better. Not Google’s Android OS. Not Windows OS. Nobody.
Think about how you handle updates or upgrades for your Mac, iPhone, iPad, Watch, or Apple TV. What do you do for each one to get it up to the latest version?
I like to control my app updates and OS upgrades, so when I see than updates or upgrades are ready to be installed, that’s what I do. Click, click. Done. Tap, tap. Done. It’s that easy and Apple does it for more than 1.5-billion users across the planet. If you track technology headlines you’ll see that Microsoft has had trouble getting Windows OS updates and upgrades for years. Android, too. Samsung and other manufacturers, too.
Firmware updates are on Apple products but seldom do you read of a problem. No, Apple’s process is not perfect, and problems do crop up here and there, but overall the Mac maker is generations ahead of competitors for what should be a simple task.
Apple makes it look easy on every device.
My only quibble is with Apple Watch, but it’s a minor nit because I leave Watch sitting near iPhone overnight and the upgrades are done by morning.
When you ask Apple customers or competitors using Windows or Android what they think of their best feature, it’s not likely many will admit to, or even give consideration to, Apple’s easy update and upgrade system.
Nathan and I work as administrators in a private school not far from Chicago and we’re challenged to keep updates and upgrades going on Android devices, and especially Windows PCs.
Mac and iPad and iPhone? No problem. It’s not a secret, but since most of Apple’s customers seldom jump ship, it’s not one that gets compared often, even if it is the best.
