Apple has iPhone customers who do not want a brick in their pockets. We long for something we can hold in one hand and navigate without the other hand. Remember the original iPhone and how big that screen was?
Those days are gone. It’s time to end the iPhone SE dream and move on; the future beckons and it has a full-sized phone waiting for those of us who prefer the whole iPhone to fit into a pocket.
Every year for the past three years we get the so-called springtime rumor fever about another iPhone SE-like iPhone to be released. Apple’s iPhone 11 models are not even here yet and just like an atomic clock with an alarm, iPhone SE 2 rumors for spring 2020 are here already.
Give it up. It’s time to end the dream. As vocal as we iPhone SE lovers are, there just are not enough of us for Apple to care anymore. The world has moved to bigger displays. iPhone SE owners will have little choice but to move toward the future. Soon.
What’s the problem?
Apple charges a premium for every product, and the iPhone leads the price per-square-inch game. The original iPhone’s display was 3.5-inches. iPhone 4, 4s, 5, 5s and SE came with 4-inch displays. That meant a phone that would fit into regular human hands, regular human pockets, and be used by, well, regular humans.
Apple must have executives and marketing folk who have spreadsheets that tell the tale of what got sold and what did not. What got sold were the bigger iPhones; the ones with the 4.7-inch display. Those and the Plus iPhones were replaced by the iPhone XR with a honking huge 6-inch display.
Maybe small is beautiful and less is more but not at Apple.
With the new iPhones, iPhone 8’s 4.7-inch model will be the last of the almost but not quite perfectly sized iPhones.
The dream of an iPhone for the rest of us is gone. There’s no more one more thing… waiting around to answer our prayers. Apple tried to resurrect some of the past with iPhone SE but not enough customers bought the past; too many moved to the future.
It’s time to end the iPhone SE dream.
