PALWORLD IV

Did you know that, in the world of Palworld, the adventure extends beyond the surface into the very genetics of your companions, the pals? As seasoned players might have observed, not every pal stands on the same ground when it comes to their capabilities. While it’s evident that pals from varied species showcase significant differences in their attributes as they progress, there’s a subtler, yet just as significant, layer of diversity among pals of the identical species.

This nuance in stat variation among same-species pals is attributed to a unique mechanic known as Individual Value (IV). IVs play a crucial role in shaping a pal’s HP, Attack, and Defense stats as they level up, resulting in considerable stat differences in Pals of the same species and at the same level, once that level gets high enough. This mechanic introduces a layer of complexity and personalization, with the disparities becoming more noticeable as pals reach higher levels.

For those keen on delving deeper into the mathematics behind Palworld’s leveling system and IV mechanics, a comprehensive exploration awaits in a detailed Reddit post by the user Blahable. This post, accompanied by a meticulously crafted Google Sheets document, offers an exhaustive breakdown of IVs across different pals, complete with an IV calculator for the enthusiasts. Join us as we unpack the intricacies of Palworld’s level scaling and IV system, offering both a primer for the uninitiated and a deep dive for the curious.

If you aren’t interested in learning about the specifics behind how the IV modifier works behind the scenes to determine the potential HP, Attack, and Defense of your Pals, and you simply want to know its value, then you can use one of the several Palworld IV Calculators available online. The one we like the best can be found on the Palpedia website, where you can also access other useful information about the game. However, simply knowing your Pals’ IV may not give you the entire picture, so we still recommend checking out the next paragraphs, where we explain how this modifier actually works and how significant its effects are.

Palworld IV Explained

Before we get into the details of Individual Value (IV) in Palworld, let’s touch on the basic level scaling system that affects all pals. There’s a very detailed and in-depth explanation of the Palworld level scaling provided in this awesome Reddit post, but if you only have time for the abridged version, here’s how it works:

At level 1, all Pals have the exact same 500 HP, 100 Attack, and 50 Defense. Each time they level up, the Pals gain an increase to each attribute. The exact amount of HP, Att, and Def gained per level is determined by multiple factors, and the IV is only one of them. The other factors are a Species-specific scaling value, which is the same for all Pals from the same species, a Skills Bonus from Passive Skills and Partner Skills, a Bonus from Condenser Upgrades, and a Bonus from Soul Statue upgrades. Also, there’s a fixed scaling value modifier that’s the same across all Pal species and individual Pals, which guarantees that, irrespective of the other factors, each Pal gets stronger once they level up. Finally, there’s also a fixed flat HP bonus of 5 HP per level.

The main difference between the other modifiers and IV is that the latter is random, so you can never know its value for certain unless you calculate it. The values of the other modifiers are fixed and are well known in the community. For example, you can find detailed info about the species-specific scaling values for each Pal species on Palpedia or in this Palworld IV Google Spreadsheed provided by Reddit user Blahable.

All those factors, put together in a formula, determine the exact HP, Attack, and Defense value of a given Pal at a given level. The formula itself can seem quite intimidating, but it’s at the core of figuring out what the IV of a given Pal is. These are the formulas that calculates the stats of the Pals in Palworld:

Calculating IV in Palworld

The formulas shown above calculate each of the three attributes of the Pals, but to calculate the IV (Individual Value) of a given Pal, those formulas need to be reversed. Again, calculating this manually can take a while, so it’s really best to use one of the available online calculators. Still, if you are into math, here are the IV calculation formulas for Palworld:

Once these formulas are applied, and you get the IV values of your Pals, you can then easily predict how strong that Pal will become at higher levels (of course, you also need to factor in the other mentioned variables). Another way this information can serve you is it can help you with breeding Pals. If you want to get a Pal baby with high IV, both of its parents also need to have high IV values. The Pal babies inherit an IV value that’s in the range set by the IV’s of its parents. Generally, the baby Pals’ IV tends to be closer to that of the parent with the higher IV, but it’s still best if both parents have a high Individual Value, as there will be less room for varience.
